Black History Month: A Culture Connection

The SEFAA DEI Committee proudly celebrates Black History Month by reverencing the contributions of all Black leaders whose courage, intellect, and perseverance have made the world a better place. To name a few, we honor:

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. – A visionary leader of the civil rights movement, Dr. King championed racial equality through nonviolent resistance. His leadership in the Montgomery Bus Boycott, the March on Washington, and the Civil Rights Act shaped a more just and inclusive society.

Katherine Johnson – A pioneering mathematician at NASA, Johnson’s groundbreaking calculations were instrumental in space exploration, including the Apollo 11 moon landing. Her achievements broke racial and gender barriers, paving the way for future generations in STEM.

Nelson Mandela – A global icon for justice and reconciliation, Mandela fought against apartheid in South Africa and became the nation’s first Black president. His lifelong advocacy for human rights and equality continues to inspire change worldwide.

Their legacies, and many others, remind us that progress is built on the strength of those who dared to challenge injustice. This month and beyond, the SEFAA DEI Committee honors their contributions and reaffirms our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
